PHOENIX Non-contact Radar Sensor for Irrigation Channel & Water Supply & Power Plant

Task definition

  • Measure the quantity of water flowing through the deviation channel of the dam
  • Large trapezoidal channel designed for a maximum capacity of 82 m³/s
  • Data must be sent remotely to the end user

Solution

  • Installation of a PHOENIX (non-contact radar sensor) over the open channel to monitor the flow combined with a ULS-06 ultrasonic level sensor. Installation height: 2 m above the bridge.
  • Installation of an IFQ Monitor with remote transmission to send data via GPRS/3G directly to the end user
  • Sensors have been covered with a sun shield

PHOENIX Radar Flowmeter for Flood Monitoring

Rainy Days Are Here!

BRAAMD Inc. offers PHOENIX Radar flow meter for rivers, canals, streams, and large channels. It can be installed for flow monitoring, a tool to alert for possible flooding, and/or help in flood prevention as well. Easily integrate with existing SCADA, PLC or other telemetry systems.

The PHOENIX flow meter is a non-contact RADAR area/velocity flowmeter specially designed for rivers or large irrigation channels. Elaborated opening angle of 32° allows the radar to see a full spectrum of velocities over the river or channel width. The PHOENIX provides highly accurate flow measurements under a wide range of flow, irregular channel or river profile, and site conditions. The sensor is easily installed above the water surface and has a robust IP68 enclosure. Expect this PHOENIX radar flowmeter to perform and to last.

Phoenix Non-Contact Radar Flowmeter for Rivers or Large Channels

The PHOENIX is the new non-contact RADAR area/velocity flowmeter specially designed for rivers or large irrigation channels. Elaborated opening angle of 32° allows the radar to see a full spectrum of velocities over the river or channel width.

The PHOENIX provides highly accurate flow measurements under a wide range of flow and site conditions.

The PHOENIX is featured with the well-known auto-diagnostic system introduced by Flow-Tronic on the RAVEN-EYE®. Internal sensors monitor and report the condition or “health” of the measuring system.

Flow Measurement Method:

  • Conversion from surface velocity measurement to average velocity based on profiler measurement (For rivers: ADCP or current meter).
  • Possibility to base conversion on models.
  • Conversion of water level and profile size to fluid area.
  • Multiplication of fluid area by average velocity to obtain the flow rate.

Key Features:

  • Accurate flow measurement
  • Cost-effective
  • Non-contact: the sensor is positioned above the water surface
  • Easy installation
  • Robust IP68 (PU) enclosure
  • Auto-diagnostic system
  • No maintenance
  • Easy integration with SCADA, PLC or telemetry systems

Applications:

  • River, canals, streams monitoring
  • Water management
  • Flood prevention
  • Irrigation channels flow monitoring
  • Hydropower plants
  • Rain basin modeling
  • Large wastewater channels
  • Drains

The PHOENIX is a universal non-contact level/velocity flow sensor that can be connected to the RTQ flow logger series or the IFQ MONITOR. Optionally it can also be connected to any device using the Modbus ASCII communication protocol.

PHOENIX Flow-meter - Non-contact RADAR Area/Velocity Flowmeter

For large canals, most especially rivers, the flowmeter for this purpose is the PHOENIX non-contact RADAR area/velocity flowmeter. It operates and has same principle with Raveneye open channel flow meter, but the Phoenix offer more range in the channel width and the height of installation (usually under a bridge).

Aside from rivers, other applications are canals, large irrigation, stream monitoring, in water management, flood prevention or monitoring, hydropower plants, rain basin modeling, large wastewater channels and more.
